WHAT IS ISAAC?

·         ISAAC stands for International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication.

·         ISAAC is a big international organisation that focuses on AAC.

·         ISAAC was formed in 1983.

·         ISAAC has over 3,700 members.

·         ISAAC members live in more than 50 countries around the world.

·         ISAAC produces a series of practical books for people involved in AAC.

·         ISAAC has an international conference every two years.

·         ISAAC sponsors a peer-reviewed scientific journal – Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Peer-reviewed means that each article is anonymously reviewed by three people who are experts to see if it is suitable for publication. Communication Matters

The COMMUNICATION MATTERS Journal presents a multi-disciplinary perspective
of AAC, and is published three times a year - April, August and December -
by the UK Chapter of ISAAC.
The Journal contains a collection of articles written by people who use AAC,
parents, and experienced AAC practitioners - teachers, therapists,
engineers, researchers and others - mostly from the UK. The articles are on
a mixture of different topics, including case studies, clinical/educational
practice, new developments in low and high tech AAC, and AAC use by children
and adults.
The style of the journal is informal and easy to read, and most articles are
practical. Articles written by persons who use AAC, parents and families are
actively welcomed. Each issue contains 40 or 44 pages with a colour cover,
A4 format.
