The project's goal: to integrate traditional AAC with ETT, while focusing on reducing dependence on the facilitator and ensuring message clarity. The group met weekly, and the activities combined typing, use of TouchChat, and verbal communication, all guided by an ETT facilitator and an SLP. The activities included creating personal stories, learning about story structure, and addressing emotional issues and thoughts. The article emphasizes the potential of combining different communication approaches in working with autistic children, and presents the advantages of a multi-dimensional approach for developing communication and expression skills. While AAC is traditionally associated with non-verbal individuals, recent research and clinical evidence suggest its efficacy in enhancing communication for verbal autistic individuals as well. The paper presents a literature review highlighting testimonies from autistic AAC users as well as from researchers, emphasizing the importance of multimodal communication. A case study is presented of an intervention process with three 14-year-old verbal autistic adolescents in a group therapy setting. The intervention incorporated various AAC tools. The article presents outcomes advocating for the expansion of AAC use among verbal autistic individuals, acknowledging diversity in communication choices, and emphasizing the importance of incorporating autistic voices in developing tailored interventions. This approach offers significant potential for broadening communication capacities and empowering existing skills in verbal autistic individuals.
