8 ר‡ל ˘ - י ˜ ון ‡ייז ˙ נ ˘ 2024 Communication in a Maze – "at home as well" – Psifas school Gili Baron, Hadas Vinder-Shtessman & Gat Savaldi-Harussi The "at home as well" project in Psifas school in Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut arose from the concept of the importance of involvement and cooperation with families. The project takes place in classes of students with significant physical and cognitive disabilities and complex communication needs. The students have AAC personal systems that were adapted during a continuous process involving a professional team, but as the students progressed with their communication abilities at school it became clear that the situation at home was not the same. A considerable gap between communication at school and at home was evident. The "at home as well" project is based on a home visit of an SLP who trains the family. At first, a mapping of strategies is done in order to find out which multi-modal strategies are applicable at home. The training program focusses on communication and language and is person centered. the different strategies are not so obvious. Explicit and gradual learning is required. As the project progressed, we learned from the families and are still learning, how training communication partners is a dynamic, ongoing and complex process. Every Voice Counts and together We Can Make a Difference/ “Shirat Ha’lev” School for Students with ASD Lior Hisherik & Adi Shichel In accordance with our school’s vision and continuous work to enable our students to represent themselves and accomplish their hopes and wishes, alongside with the Student Rights Law, we decided to establish a student council for the first time. An accessible student council was a great opportunity for our students to learn that their hopes and dreams are meaningful and that they have an impact on themselves and on their surroundings, all while being an active part in a meaningful learning process. The success of our pilot student council became possible with the full cooperation of the educational staff and the concept of accessibility for all.
