We discussed why this stage is particularly important for children with complex communication needs, explored research-based methods for identifying and assessing a child’s literacy stage, and experienced several intervention strategies designed to foster early literacy development. Key message: To e ectively promote literacy in children with complex communication needs, it is essential to identify each child’s developmental stage and tailor instruction and content to their individual abilities and needs. Looking ahead on Cerebral Visual Impairment Vardit Kindler At the ISAAC Conference, held in July 2025, I delivered a workshop presenting current developments in the eld of cerebral visual impairment (CVI) and its profound impact on quality of life. The session highlighted the sources I rely on to stay up to date with CVI-related research, emphasizing the importance of understanding where professionals in the eld obtain their knowledge. I underscored the need to approach this knowledge critically—encouraging participants not to take instructions at face value, but to explore the evidence and rationale behind them. The workshop also provided an opportunity to discuss pressing issues in CVI that cannot be fully addressed through online platforms, even though relevant ndings have been published in studies over the past two years.
